Our DIY this month is similar to our chalk wine bottle tutorial here. But these would be so stinking cute for back to school gifts and/or storage! Just find or buy a Mason jar. Spray paint with primer. Let that dry, and then paint over it with chalkboard paint. Our favorite chalkboard paint is Benjamin Moore, available at Hometown Lumber. Wait a few days, and then condition it by rubbing chalk all over it. Wipe that off and then draw on it and/or go over the raised areas with chalk again. Then fill it will school supplies (or flowers, because I like to put flowers in/on everything :)).IMG_2277

Happy August!

Our DIY this month is cute and easy storage for your desk top or shelf.

IMG_2199

We found two jars we liked, a couple of zinc lids, and collected some small ceramic animal figurines. Next, we used E6000 glue to glue the figures onto the top of the zinc lids. After those dry (24 hrs), do a couple of coats of white spray paint over the lids, making sure to get down in the crevices of the animals. Then, just choose something fun to store in them like washi tapes and colored pencils. 🙂

We hope you are having a great July! Thanks for being so awesome 🙂

Our DIY this month is a fun 4th of July party favor. 4th of July poppers are great for a little extra treat for the kids, or adults that are kids at heart :). And they’re so simple to make! Just get some candy in red, white, and blue colors – we used tootsie pops and peppermints. Place a pile of candy on one end of a strip of tissue paper and roll it up.4th Then tie ribbon or string around the ends.IMG_1975 Next, cut a strip of cute patriotic cardstock and glue it around the middle.IMG_1976 Finally, have fun handing them out to guests and watching them break them open to find a sweet surprise!                                                 IMG_1981

Our DIY this month is a super simple way to hold some of those little sprigs of fresh blooms that we can start picking, or just cute wall decor even without blooms.

12818986_477539825763145_587380405_n

Find vintage bottles and frames or just paint new ones to look vintage. We have a few vintage bottles and frames available in the antique/industrial salvage part of the shop. Paint the frames fun colors using chalk paint, acrylic, or latex paint. You can also put alcohol ink on some of the bottles to color them. Next glue twine around the neck of your bottle and tie it off. Then hold the bottle in your frame arranging it how you want it. Tie the other end of the twine in place around the top of your frame. So simple, but so sweet. Perfect to put a little water in with a sprig of lilac.
My neighbors lilacs smell so amazing! Hope you are enjoying this lovely time of the year, have a great rest of the month!

Chalkboard wine bottle bouquets are great for so many occasions, and you can easily personalize your message on the bottle. We used our favorite Benjamin Moore chalkboard paint. You’ll have to coat it twice (and/or use primer first) since it’s going on such a slick surface. After the paint dried, we wrapped twine around the necks of the bottles for an extra touch. Follow the instructions on your chalkboard paint for curing time, and then write on/decorate your bottle! Finally, we made some fun tissue flowers to stick in the bottles.
We hope you have an awesome April!

Our DIY this month is a simple decorative pinwheel. Such a fun spring decoration!

IMG_1641

I started by cutting a 5x5in square. Use a pencil to draw lines from corner to corner to cut on, or just eyeball it and start in the corner aiming toward the middle. Just make sure to stop before you actually reach the middle, leaving the square connected in the middle. Then, since these are just for decoration and not to use as a workable pinwheel, just glue a small dowel or wood skewer in the middle of the inside of your pinwheel, lining it up so that it follows one of the slits down. Then pull up one corner of one triangle and glue it to the center on top of the dowel. Skip the other corner of that triangle and go on to the closest corner of the next triangle, gluing it to the center. collage for newsletterContinue until each triangle has a corner glued into the middle. Pick out a cute button to glue on top of the corners in the center and you’re done! They’re great for table centerpiece arrangements, or if you make smaller ones, for cake and cupcake toppers.

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather and have a wonderful spring season!

Our DIY this month is a simple way to make a last minute Valentine.
IMG_1628
This DIY features Bella Blvd “Valentina” Daily Details paper. So many cute images on this paper that the cards pretty much make themselves. I cut the “Beauty is on the Inside” jar out of the paper for this card. I cut two small hearts out of coordinating papers, tied red and white baker’s twine around the top of the jar, and punched small holes in the hearts attaching them to the ends of the baker’s twine strings with a knot to hold them in place. Then I cut a red rectangle out about 2.75 x 3.75 inches and glued the jar on top. Finally, I cut a 5.5 x 8.5 piece of Basic polka dot Pebbles paper to fold in half and glue it on and stamped “l love you” on the inside. Simple, but sweet Valentine 🙂
We hope you have the sweetest Valentine’s Day filled with loved ones!

Our DIY this month is a fun idea to start off the year with. A customer had us make these jars for Christmas gifts this year. This is the note that she had us attach to each jar: “This January, why not start the year with an empty jar and fill it with notes about good things that happen. Then, on New Years Eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened that year. Good way to keep things in perspective!” But instead of just putting it in a regular jar, we decorated each jar so that it not only holds your notes, but looks pretty too:). You can use pretty much any glass container with a lid, we used a mason jar for this one. We just wrapped some twine around this one and added some wood tag embellishments. Then we covered the lid with pretty paper and cut slips of paper to write the notes on.
IMG_1587
Hope your jar gets full :), wishing you all the best in 2016!

Our DIY this month is a simple small gift idea.

IMG_1523

For this project, you’ll need a mason jar and lid, primer spray paint, snowflake mask, ribbon and baker’s twine, striped cardstock, white or light blue cardstock, fake evergreen stems or picks, and candy or whatever you want to fill your jar with. For tools you’ll need glue, scissors, wire cutters, and sandpaper. I cut the doily/snowflake shape out of adhesive vinyl on the cricut for a stencil, but you could fold a paper and hand cut a snowflake out and spray a light coat of spray adhesive or another type of glue that will stick to the glass but still easily pull off. Turn the jar upside down so that you don’t get any spray paint inside. Spray a nice even coat of primer on the jar and ring. After it dries you can go over it with another color or leave it white. Peel off your stencil/mask. Sand off places on the jar with a piece of sandpaper to distress it. If you are worried about more paint scratching off easily, spray a sealer over it (again with it upside down, to keep the inside food safe).  Trace the jar lid onto red and white striped cardstock and cut the circle out. Lightly sand the unpainted jar lid and glue the cardstock circle onto it. Fill the jar with pretty candy or even your favorite hot cocoa mix. I used soft peppermint candies, I love putting them in my coffee during this season! Screw the lid onto your jar and glue red glitter ribbon around the rim. Cut the ends off of some cute evergreen stems with wire cutters and tie them around the lid with baker’s twine. Just tie it in a knot for now. Use a little glue if you want to secure them permanently. I used a 2 inch circle punch to cut the tag out of cardstock and hand wrote Merry Christmas! on it. Then punch a small hole in the top, and run one end of your baker’s twine through it. Just tie your baker’s twine in a bow and your done!

We are wishing you the merriest of Christmases this season!
